One NGO worker I’ve met termed this place “..the best Korean food I’ve found in Kathmandu.” and I think I’d have to agree. Far from the squeaking horns of the rickshaw drivers and tucked into a residential neighborhood, this asian haven has a staid and calming atmosphere that deserves pause. Devote an hour or more to lunch, possibly two or more for dinner to enjoy the food and hopefully company in one of MTK’s various dining areas. The menu is primarily in Korean, though a decent translation is provided for the rest of the world’s cultures.
The food is, in a word, authentic. There are no momos. There are no club sandwiches. There are adverts for Soju on the wall. The staff is Nepali, but the owner and her family are Korean, so sometimes a bit of finesse is required for the Dai taking your order. There is parking available somewhere on the road, though I’ve not used it.
If you need a good dose of Korean food, go to More Than Kimchi.

Tucked off to the end of an alley (but sign is visible from J.P. Road), Bamboo Garden Restaurant doesn’t look to be much, but serves some pretty decent Korean. It’s probably more like fast-food korean compared with some others, but at least the pot came out sizzling! Not too shabby for a relatively inexpensive place. Parking seems to be available for motorcycles, it’s in Thamel anyway, so don’t try and drive there! No wifi, didn’t try the restroom(s). Indoor/outdoor and floor seating available. I’d go for lunch, maybe not dinner.

If you happen to be kicking around Ravi Bhavan (southwest quarter) and have a hankering for some food, Café Hoshi might be up your alley. Off the beaten path (see map), Hoshi sports little in the way of parking, save the street and perhaps the nearby Lincoln School parking lot. The café’s little one room diner is pleasantly painted with warm tones and appointed with quaint tables and an AC unit. Customers order from the kitchen window after browsing over a bifold menu that has a multicultural specialty selection.
The menu covers Japanese, Korean and Chinese, while still offering western “hamburger” fair and Nepali “niceties.”

Café Hoshi can add itself to the proud list of places that does iced coffee “right;” using coffee ice cubes to keep the flavor of the coffee adds to the whole experience, rather than detracts, and you can also tell that at least the water has had something done to it (important here in Nepal). The size of the glass is “western” in my estimation, something around 14oz.

The bi-bim-bap was excellent, though the chili sauce was a bit thin (this reviewer is used to thicker, redder paste). It fairly disappeared within minutes, hampered by chopsticks though I was.

As a test of their local cuisine, I ordered the fried chicken momo’s. As at every place, they were slightly different, in this case offering a spicy kick. The conflicting Korean and Nepali flavoring helped me make the decision to have them packed to go, and finish them later with a cold beer, rather than stack them on to my already delicious lunch.

Of note, no restrooms visible here, perhaps in the back if one asks. Off the beaten path. No wifi. Excellent representational cuisine. A repeat whenever this reviewer is around!

Han kook’s busiest nights are Friday and Saturday. Decent Korean, but rib dishes can be gristly. Good Soju, array of food. Right across from Tamas (a bar/club).

My favorite Korean food in KTM thus far!
The road it’s on looks devoid of stores, but it’s there. Look for the Korean flag, sign, and turn down the street. Then look for the yellow gate. Top BBQ for dinner (and maybe lunch?) available.
